1. How are impurities introduced in chemical substances? Write the principle for limit test of iron. Calculate the weight of FeSO4.7H2O required to prepare 250ml, 20ppm sulphate solution. [4+3+3=10]

2. Explain the test for purity, properties, assay and medicinal uses of: (5*4= 20)

a.       Sodium Chloride

b.      Ferrous gluconate

c.       Hydrogen peroxide

d.      Aluminium Hydroxide gel

3.      3. Describe the test for purity, assay and medicinal uses of calcium gluconate, also give its structure. (3+4+2+1=10)

4.    4. Explain stereochemistry and mechanism of SN1 and SN2 reactions. What happens when 2,2 dimethyl-1, 3 bromobutane undergoes reaction through SN1 and SN2 paths? (7+3=10)

5.      5. Explain in detail with mechanism: (5+5=10)

a.       Claisen Condensation

b.      Michael addition Reaction

6.      6. Explain the role of solvent in substitution reaction. (5)

7.      7. Explain phase transfer catalysis with mechanism. (5)

8.     8. Define E1cb reaction. Differentiate between E1 and E2 reaction. Explain the heat of hydrogenation and stability of alkenes. (2+3+5=10)
